Let's Promenade

I went down to Santa Monica with Katie today to have lunch and walk around at the shops on the Third Street Promenade. I decided to start keeping notes of my adventures so I wouldn't forget things when I went to post. Here are the things I jotted down during our Promenade Adventure:

- "Large topless man with boom box" - We were stopped at a light not too far from the pier when a rather large, white, bald man with no shirt on came walking down the street. He had on some shorts and some hightop tennis shoes with the tongues folded down. And to complete the "street" look - he had a big boom box up on his shoulder. We SO wish we had our cameras out in time for this one!!

- "Parking Garage Miracle" - I just started to type out the story for this one and it's not really very funny. Let's just say this - if you wear prescription sunglasses, switch them back to the regular glasses before you drive in to a dark parking structure.

- "Volume 3" - this refers to our celebrity sighting of the day (see post below). Good times!

- "Breaded Chunks" - We were in line at a hamburger place and they had some specials posted in the window. One of them was called "Breaded Chunks". Seriously? Does that sound appetizing? And breaded chunks of what? Katie pointed out that there was a parenthesis under the title that said "(Popcorn Chicken)". Perhaps we should just call it Popcorn Chicken.

- "Skeeball Tournament" - It turns out that Katie and I are both big fans of skeeball. Our first game, we tied with 150,000 points each. I pulled ahead on the 2nd round with a very lucky shot into the 100,000 point slot. Then, out of the goodness of our hearts, we gave our combined 21 tickets to a grateful skeeball-playing child!

- "Celebrity Stalking" - Yes, we did. See post below for more details. We walked around to the end of the Pier to find her again, then even went in to the carnival game area. We didn't see her, but we did walk into an area where a man was holding a very large sign telling us that the area was being filmed and you could be on camera. So everyone be on the lookout for a pier scene with me and Katie in the background!

- "Let's Promenade" - After we got done with the Pier, we walked up to the Promenade and walked around the shops. We saw some very interesting street performers - including a man painted silver and wearing all silver clothes. There were also some very talented guitar players that I really liked. What do they NOT seem to have on the Promenade? Ice cream. Trust me, we looked.

- "Rack of lamb" - We went in to Sur La Table to look at all the fun cooking gadgets. We came to the packages of those little frilly paper socks that you put on the ends of the bone of a rack of lamb. We discovered that we've both wanted to make one but never have. So...we now are the proud owners of a package of "Chop Frills" as an inspiration to make rack of lamb. You are all invited - but we may have to charge you an entrance fee if the lamb is super expensive!

Overall - good times! Thanks Katie!

My husband and I are both laughing hysterically about the "breaded chunks" right now.
