Burnin' Down The House

Some of you know that I bought my first barbecue (or "grill" for those of you in TX) last week. I never really learned to do it myself, since it was men's work in my house growing up. I've used it several times so far, and it's been fun. I did require some supervision during the inaugural use last Saturday (thanks, Rachel!), but otherwise, I've been doing it all by myself.

Ask my mom what my most requested meals have been since I've been away from home and she'll say "taco salad" and "barbecued hamburgers". So today, I decided to do some hamburgers on my little grill.

I learned a very important grilling lesson today: fire + grease = bigger fire.

I know, it seems fairly obvious, but I'm a baker not a griller. I can explain certain chemical reactions that happen during baking that make things turn out the way they do. I can brulee things. I can do A LOT with a little chocolate, but I'm not good with the grill.

Let's just say it wasn't pretty. It's a wonder they allow people to have grills on the balconies considering there's quite a large wooden overhang. It happened quickly, but I'm pretty sure I had a flame shoot up almost that high! Oops!

But...the burger was delicious!

well done Laura. The most I do with the grill, is turn it on so that when John walks in, he can get the show started.
Maybe someday I'll be brave. After all Ginger can do it. But then again she is amazing.

You're right...Ginger is amazing. Look at all the fabulous daughters she's raised! I didn't even know she was the griller of the family until last weekend. Something to aspire to!
