Question of the Week

Some of you know I bought this little block of questions during Katiepalooza weekend. I've decided to make it a periodic blog feature. I want to hear your answers!

Here's this week's question:

In what era would you most like to have grown up?

For me, the answer would have to be the late 40s and early 50s. I think this stems from my interest in the World War II era. I don't know that I would have wanted to experience the war days because I think it would have been so scary. Not only having family members and neighbors in harm's way, but I think US citizens in that time were in fear of an attack on the mainland. But I think the period right after World War II was such a neat time. Just really carefree and fun, but people had such a sense of responsibility, patriotism and care about the country and doing what was right. I wish it were a little more like that now.

I like the question of the week idea!

I would like to have been born in 1870 and lived until the 1950's. Think of all the changes those people experienced and saw. Going from wagons to cars. Walking to flying. Talking about the Civil War with their father to living through both World Wars.

Simply Amazing!

Liz - that's a good one too! I always think of Laura Ingalls Wilder. She was born in 1867 and died at the age of 90 in 1957. She saw A LOT!! I bet it was hard for those people to believe all the advances they saw in their lives. Cool!

I love both of your ideas. And I love that both of you chose based on ideals and events. You're thinking much higher than I am because I was thinking that any period without indoor plumbing is automatically off my list. Any period where I would probably not be literate or had to work in a factory or kill and pluck my own chicken is off. Any period where I would have to wear a corset or a petticoat is off. This considerably narrows it down. How about the 1920s? I could be a flapper, even though my beads would definitely not hang straight.

Wow--you all think way more than I do! All I could come up with was some time when they wore pretty dresses all the time. I cant even decide what style of dress I liked better, so I can't narrow it down that way...Although Rachel has some good points that I should factor in...
