2009…the year of the____?

As we wrap up 2008, we can reflect on the year of the Palooza with fond memories. It all started with Katiepalooza in Santa Barbara! Oh…good times! I have especially special memories of Laurapalooza in May – all that great cooking and friendly competition!!

Not to take away from those of you who are yet to have your Palooza this year, but 2009 is just around the corner and we need to decide what the theme of the year will be. I think the only requirement is that it rolls off the tongue like “palooza” did. I suggest Fest.

For example, we have Liz Fest in January, followed by Katie Fest, and so on. It certainly doesn’t sound as grand as “palooza” but what do you think? I looked up Festival in the thesauras and here are some of the synonyms (maybe we can work with them): Banquet, carnival, cavalcade, celebration, fair, fiesta, gala, jamboree, jubilee, pageant. Oh boy, if we could figure out a way to get jamboree or jubilee to work – I’d be a happy camper!

Next step…everyone’s assignment is to come up with some suggestions for 2009 and then we’ll take a vote! So, suggest away!!

Hmm…I like “fest.” It combines well with all of our names.

I also like “jubilee” and “jamboree.” But, you’re right, they don’t really work with names, unless you get rid of the “ju” and the “jam.” (Like “Liz-bilee”, or “Katie-boree”) But, if we did that, I don’t think anyone would know what we’re talking about.

Maybe we’d start a new slang term?!

Oh, and a message to Rachel and Katie: At Rachel’s birthday party, we decided on a great theme for my party. And I really liked it! But, um, do either of you remember what that was?

I’ve completely forgotten…

Um...you mean at Rachel-palooza? It was a poetry theme. Instead of bringing presents we are to bring poems that we wrote for you and we would have a beatnik poetry reading complete with bongos. I can't wait!

And I actually think that jubilee and jamboree work if the word "the" is put infront of it. As in, "It's January. We need to start planning The Liz Jubilee."

My only other suggestion is a-go-go. Like Rachel-a-go-go. It has a nice party sound to it.

What about Hullabaloo, except we'd drop the loo and add a name? As in HullabaLiz!or HullabaHeather!
...Wow--that's a mouthful!

While I love a good Fest, I am totally voting for Jamboree!! I might even have my own WI Jamboree. I think I am going to tell my baby shower planners, that I would like it announced as a jamboree. Although it will be in 2008, so maybe I should go with the Palooza, so I could feel included in all these 2008 festivities.
I also love the go-go and the HellabaLiz, although some might think you were swearing. I can't decide if that makes it more fun or not :)!

HAHA! It does sound like we're swearing--I didn't think about that....Is it bad if I think that makes it better?

I'm with Sara. I like cavalcade. But that's because I always secretly wish I lived in the 50's and it is 50's kind of word. I can just hear it now..."Live! From the Ed Sullivan Theater! A Cavalcade of Stars! Doris Day! Rock Hudson! Donna Reed! Lucille Ball! All brought to you by our sponsor, Ovaltine!"

P.S., just for fun I did a little search just now for advertisements from the 50's and came across this gem: http://www.omnesamici.co.uk/Adverts/CravenA.jpg

I keep trying to vote for a go-go, but it doesn't want me to. Have you rigged this poll to only allow people to vote for your top choice??
