Gas Station Hunt

I was in San Dimas yesterday at my uncle's house for Easter. On my way home in my rental car (long story and I can't talk about it right now or I will hit someone), I realized I was running on fumes. I discovered this right about the time I was in the really bad part of L.A. Great timing!

I decided to get off the freeway, scared that I would run out in the middle of a lane and get killed by someone driving 95 MPH. I figured, there are ALWAYS gas stations right off the freeway, right? Not so much. I started driving and figured if I stayed close to the freeway, I was bound to run into a gas station. Any gas station. Even one of those "no name" ones that charges twice the price.

I passed by all of the "colorful" people one would expect to see in the ghetto! And then, my "stay by the freeway" plan was drastically cut short by a set of one way streets that forced me away from the freeway. OK, I thought, just remember which way I'm going and everything will be fine. I'm getting scared at this point. If I did run out of gas where I was, I would probably never see any of you again...and that would just be sad. At least I did have a box of See's Scotchmallow Easter eggs from my mommy. If I'm gonna die in the 'hood, at least I'll die with a happy tummy!

I kept driving, passing every possible fast food place known to man...but still no gas. I'm DYING to see that happy little Shell logo, or maybe Mobil or...who cares...just any gas station! Why is this so complicated! Oh look...another McDonald's, a KFC, a Taco Bell...still no gas. I'm about ready to cry when I decide to take a random turn on a street that looks a little more promising. I grabbed one of my Easter eggs to comfort me. I kept driving and driving and driving. Del Taco, another McDonald's, a Church's, another McDonald's. And finally....like a vision...a Mobil station!!! Hooray!! I got some gas and miraculously remembered my way back to the freeway. I have never been so happy to see the 10 all jam packed as I was at that moment!

The moral of the story...if you're going to run out of gas in a bad area...come hungry and bring a can of gas. You'll have plenty of fast food places to choose from...but no gas stations!

laura,
Do you remember that time, I believe, we were out for my birthday and I had to pee so bad??? We were near the ghetto and you wouldn't stop. Even though I was seriously concerned about an accident! ????
I'm just thinking this wouldn't have happened if you had stopped back in the day. If you had made peace with the ghetto then, it wouldn't have needed to haunt you yesterday.
Just a thought!
